PHP 8.0 is end of life and PHP 9.0 is approaching. It is now the right time to lift our minimum PHP and Joomla requirements for our extensions, except DPCalendar.
Continuing our established release strategy, as it is the fourth Thursday in month, we are pleased to announce the latest versions for DPCalendar, DPMedia, DPAttachments and DPCases. The following new feature releases are published today for you:
- DPCalendar 8.17.2 [Download]
- DPMedia 1.12.0 [Download]
- DPAttachments 5.6.0 [DPAttachments]
- DPCases 3.6.0 [Download]
The next chapters are highlighting some of the most important changes in this release window. The requirements lifting does affect DPMedia, DPCases and DPAttachments. DPCalendar will follow next month.
PHP 8.1
The PHP community ships every 6 months a new minor version for PHP, the most recent one is PHP 8.3 and the next one will be released in November 2024. Also PHP 9.0 is on the horizon, without a fixed release date now. You see, also PHP is moving on a decent pace forward, so it is time to lift for us the minimum PHP requirements for our extensions, except DPCalendar, from 7.4 to 8.1, which is by the way the minimum requirement of Joomla 5 and upwards and say goodby to the PHP end of life versions 7.4 and 8.0.
This means that also our internal code quality tools will not test anymore for these legacy versions.
Joomla 4.4
We supported also end of life versions of Joomla down to 4.2. This will now be lifted as well for our extensions, except for DPCalendar, to the latest active version 4.4. This is the bridge version between Joomla 4 and 5 and will be maintained till October 2024 and receives security fixes tillĀ October 2025.
Bugfixes
We are eager to improve our extensions on a regular basis. That's why every major/feature release does contain also bug fixes and small enhancements as well to improve the stability and performance.
A full changelog is added in the respective download release description on our download site.
