Joomla 6 was released with some amazing new features like core automatic updates. Read on how we handle compatibility with it and what for older Joomla versions we support.

The long-awaited Joomla 6 marks a major leap forward for one of the web’s most trusted open-source CMS platforms. Released in October 2025, this version focuses on modernization, performance, and a cleaner developer experience, not just new features. What does that mean for the Digital Peak extensions?

Full compatibility

All of our extensions are fully compatible with Joomla 6 right out of the box, meaning you won’t need to install or rely on the compatibility plugin. This reflects our ongoing commitment to maintaining a modern, forward-compatible codebase that aligns perfectly with the latest changes in Joomla’s core API.

By continuously updating our extensions to match new framework standards and best practices, we ensure maximum stability, performance, and security for your website. You can upgrade to Joomla 6 with confidence, knowing that our solutions integrate seamlessly with the newest platform architecture and take full advantage of its latest improvements. Our CI/CD platform does test our extensions with over 4000 system tests on a nightly basis to ensure full compatibility.

Which older versions we support?

We understand that upgrading to a new Joomla version isn’t something that can, or should, happen overnight. Major releases often come with small bugs or compatibility issues that take time to surface and be resolved. That’s why we’re committed to giving you the flexibility and confidence to upgrade at your own pace. To ensure a smooth transition for everyone, we will fully support Joomla 5.4 throughout its entire lifetime of the next two years, as well as continue to maintain Joomla 4.4 for an extended period. This approach guarantees that no one is left behind, no matter which version you’re currently using.

If you’re still running Joomla 3, now is the perfect time to plan your migration to a newer version. However, we know that some sites can’t be upgraded immediately due to custom extensions or project constraints. For those users, we continue to provide DPCalendar 8.19.3, a stable and widely used release specifically maintained for Joomla 3. This branch is in security maintenance mode, meaning that if a vulnerability is discovered, we will promptly release a patched version. Even critical bugs are still being fixed to keep your site safe and functional. We stand by our users, you can count on us to provide reliable updates and support, no matter which Joomla version you’re on.

Test your updates

And because we’re passionate about test automation and ensuring smooth, error-free updates, we highly recommend using is-it.io. This powerful tool lets you quickly and easily test your website both before and after a Joomla 6 upgrade, helping you catch potential issues early and giving you peace of mind throughout the migration process.
